Bhutan is an Eastern Himalayan country that is located in the south of Tibet and sandwiched between two of the most populous countries in the world. It has a population of around 740,000 people. The name Bhutan means “land of the thunder dragon”, which is a mythical creature in Bhutanese folklore. Bhutan’s landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to arid mountains in the north. Known as “The Land of Happiness”, it is famous for its rich natural beauty and traditional Buddhist culture.
