Suriname

The name Suriname is derived from the word “Surinaamse”, which means “Dutch Guiana” in the native tongue of Dutch settlers. This is because much of the country was controlled by the Dutch in the 17th century when it became known as Dutch Guiana. The country gained independence in 1975 and is now considered to be one of the most culturally diverse nations on earth.
Suriname has an incredible mix of cultures including African, East Indian, European and Creole. It also has a vast array of natural beauty with rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, beaches and more. You can easily explore all that Suriname has to offer thanks to its growing tourism industry.
