But there are also plenty of interesting things to do in Fort Lauderdale that don’t require a trip to the mainland. Here are 10 ideas for things to do in Fort Lauderdale when you’re in town.
Get a map of the city
When you’re visiting Fort Lauderdale, be sure to get a map of the city. A map is essential when you’re exploring Fort Lauderdale’s many attractions, as well as when you want to find places in town without GPS.
A good map will include attractions that aren’t too far away from each other, as well as information about nearby restaurants and bars. It’ll also show all the best spots to visit on your trip—and where not to go!
Maps are also handy for knowing which public transportation options your destination offers. When planning out how you’ll get around the city, the convenience of public transportation is worth taking into consideration.
Discover Fort Lauderdale’s historical landmarks
One of the best ways to experience Fort Lauderdale is by exploring its fascinating history. You can do this simply by visiting the Historical Society Museum on NE 36th Street, where you’ll find artifacts from all different periods. On top of that, the museum offers tours of the historic downtown Fort Lauderdale area and various other programs.
Another must-see historical site in Fort Lauderdale is the Old Spanish Trailhead in Pompano Beach. This small collection of buildings was used as a staging point for settlers arriving in Florida during the late 18th century and early 19th century to prepare for their journey across what is now known as the Florida Everglades.
And finally, if you’re in town on a Saturday morning, make sure to check out Fort Lauderdale’s famous farmers market. It’s hosted every Saturday morning at 11am on SW 8th Street near Broward Boulevard and NW 2nd Avenue.
